Understudy uses AI
Coaching replies, resume teardowns and rewrites, generated questions, STAR-story drafts, mock-interview conversation, and scorecards are produced by large language models (Google’s Gemini family). AI output can be wrong, incomplete, or generic — always review it before using it in a real application or interview.
What gets sent to the AI provider
Only what the feature needs: your instruction plus the relevant context — for example your resume text for a teardown, or the conversation history for a coaching thread. During a live mock, your microphone audio streams directly to the Gemini Live API. We store the transcript and the scorecard; we never store the raw audio.
Provider data handling
Google states that content sent to the paid Gemini API is not used to improve its products, though it may be retained for a limited period for abuse monitoring under its terms. Understudy does not promise zero provider-side retention.
You stay in control
Resume edits requested through the AI coach require your explicit confirmation before they are applied. Save a resume version before a large rewrite if you may want to restore it. Model choice and limits are configured by us server-side; each top-level AI request draws one action from your monthly allowance.
